Heatherdene is a well insulated house and is all electric, supplied by Scottish Hydro Electric and derived from renewable resources. Base heating and Hot water is on Comfort Plus tariff which inputs energy when demand on the grid is low and in accordance with the predicted temperatures.
The Clearview 500 woodburning stove is British made and we use locally source softwood from sustainable sources.
Where appropriate there are low energy bulbs for lights that may be on for longer periods.
For your interest there is an OWL monitor which shows how much energy is being consumed at any time.

Most of our guests arrive by car and we have 10 tips for reducing the carbon produced by your journey. These are available once booking is made.

Biodiversity is important to us and we have retained the natural woodland feel of the garden with native trees and plants.
We have used boulders found in the garden and the local area to create the raised beds for planting to which we have added other plants for interest and to provide nectar for insects and seed for birds.
Red squirrels use the garden and we hope you will fill the nut and seed feeders all year round to ensure they are well fed!
